A coalition of groups in Haiti and solidarity activists in the United States have put out a call for an international day of solidarity with Haiti. The demands include:
*** End the Foreign Military Occupation of Haiti!
*** Stop the War against the People of Haiti!
*** Respect Haiti's Sovereignty!
The call to action followed a series of UN raids in Cite Soleil – most notably military actions on December 22 portrayed as an effort to capture a gang leader, but that led to the death of many innocent people. The UN leadership has been surprising glib, and indifferent to the concerns raised by human rights activists, and is actually planning to increase operations in Cite Soleil with an increase of 350 soldiers from Nepal rather than change course.
If you are planning a Haiti solidarity week event, please take some time to raise these concerns, and demands in some form. Please let us, and the organizers of the International Day know if you are doing an event, so it can be posted on websites.
